Which Excel files are accepted?

The legacy Excel 97-2003 format, with the .xls extension, up to 10 MiB per file. .xlsx workbooks have their own page; CSV files and password-protected workbooks are rejected.

How are sheets and tables organised?

The Markdown starts with a title set to the file name, then one section per sheet, in workbook order. Each sheet becomes a GFM table whose first row is the header; empty sheets are skipped.

What happens to formulas, dates and numbers?

Values are the ones Excel displays, with their format (dates, percentages, currencies). A formula gives its last calculated value, and special Markdown characters are escaped so they cannot break the table.
